Ebonyi state house of Assembly was arrested by EFCC.

In accordance with the EFCC’s directive to
clamp down on financial crimes and
irregularities in the Country, the EFCC has
made another arrest. The Commission, at
about 11am today, picked up the Speaker of
the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. The
Speaker was accosted at the Akanu Ibiam
International Airport, Enugu.
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission had previously invited the
Speaker on two occasions, but the
Honourable chose to ignore; so as a result
the Commission was pushed to make a
public arrest
Nwaifuru was first invited on October 20,
2015 to appear before the Enugu zonal
office of the Commission but did not
respond to the invitation. A reminder letter
was sent to him on November 19, 2015,
which he also failed to respond to.
The lawmaker, who is representing Izzi West
state constituency in the Ebonyi State
Assembly, allegedly diverted and
misappropriated N60m constituency project
fund before his emergence as speaker.
The Ibrahim Mustafa Magu led commission
has surely covered more ground in a year,
than its past leaders (Nuhu Ribadu, Ibrahim
Lamorde and Farida Waziri) have in over a
decade. We commend their efforts, truth be
told if previous administration had instilled
this fear into corrupt politicians, Nigerian
would have been better for it.
